How to get a Docker ID

Attention

As of Apr 8, 2020, you do not need to sign in with a Docker ID in order to download the Docker Desktop installer.

Before using Docker Desktop, you will need to register a Docker ID at Docker Hub (https://hub.docker.com/). To download Docker Desktop, first sign in with your Docker ID.

Requesting a Docker ID

Choose a Docker ID and password

Decide on the Docker ID and password you will use beforehand.

Docker IDs must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Between four and 30 characters.

  • Contain only uppercase/lowercase alphabetic characters and numbers.

Passwords must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Between nine [Corrected from “6” given in the original text. Please confirm.] and 128 characters. (If you enter a password of fewer than nine characters, you will see the error message “Password must be at least nine characters long,” and you will need to try again.)

E-mail address

  • Must be an address where you can receive e-mail.

Sign up

  1. Visit the Docker Hub Signup page in your web browser https://hub.docker.com/signup.

  2. Enter your Docker ID, password, and e-mail address in the appropriate fields. [The listed items in the original text were omitted to prevent redundancy.]

  • Enter a Docker ID

  • Password

  • Email

  1. Click the checkboxes next to each of the following to indicate your agreement to Docker’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Data Processing Terms.

  • I agree to Docker’s Terms of Service.

  • I agree to Docker’s Privacy Policy and Data Processing Terms.

  • (Optional) I would like to receive e-mail updates from Docker, including its various services and products.

  • I am not a robot.

  1. Click Continue to submit your information.

Enter personal information

On the next page, enter your name, etc.

  1. Complete your profile

    • First name

    • Last name

    • Company

    • Country (choose from list)

  2. Tailor your experience

    • Your role (choose from list)

    • Docker Experience (choose from list)

  3. Click [Continue].

Verify e-mail address

  1. The next page will show “Please Check Your Inbox” in the header.

Docker will send a confirmation message to the e-mail address you gave in the signup process. This will contain a link you should click to verify your address.

  1. After you click the link, you should see a web page displaying “Verification Success!”

Once you have completed these steps, you are ready to sign in with your Docker ID.
